Hello, beautiful readers!
First, be sure to check out my latest article on Medium, 23 Things Women Need More than Wraps or Skinny Teas. Here’s a short excerpt:
“We need to start investing in ourselves and in our lives and stop propping up an industry that hates female bodies. There’s a difference between trying to be healthy and live our best lives and spending those lives feeling shame, struggle, and discomfort with the bodies we’re in and the foods we eat to nourish them.”
Fans of poetry may want to go back and read Empty Space Matches Your Shape, which begins:
“The moon slips soft between
the clouds and I
slip soft into my bed
where empty space
matches the shape
of you, and I
lay down my head
to fall to restless sleep
now dreaming
that I am kissing you
instead …”
I’ve noticed this week that I’m more distracted than usual. I don’t know if it’s this gorgeous warm Fall weather we’re having here in Madison, Georgia, or if it’s the fact that I’m about a week away from adopting the world’s cutest puppy— but I just can’t seem to focus. Maybe it’s just the massive anxiety of the year and the impact of Covid on my lifestyle and finances. We’re all dealing with that.
Regardless, I’m taking the time to surround myself with nature and to read books. I’m making quality time with my kids. Silver linings are everywhere, and we need them this year.
As far as books go, I just finished reading Dating You, Hating You—and I’m a little sad I will never read that book for the first time again. If you love a fun, sexy romcom of a book, you’ve got to check it out. It’s perfect for fans of Christina Lauren, Rosie Blake, or Helen Hoang. I’ve moved on to Flatmates as my next read, and I’m enjoying every quirky page of that one, too. I’m lucky to get so many truly fantastic book recommendations. I have a fat stack of books in my TBR pile just waiting for me to get done with this one.
I was going broke buying books online to support authors, but I’ve pivoted in the last couple of months to borrowing books from the local library—and then thanking the authors with reviews on both Amazon and Goodreads. If I can’t give a rave review, I don’t do it, but I know how much authors count on sales and reviews, so if I borrow my reads, I’m going to make extra sure to leave a great (and honest) review.
I’m going to go finish my already-cold pumpkin spice latte and squeeze in just a little more work before I go meet a friend for lunch—masked up and socially distanced, of course. I hope you’re all staying safe. Thanks for reading!
