A poem
I whisper, “I love you”
To the land
She sighs and takes my hand
With a brush of lavender
Against my skin
No words needed
Nothing but the wind
Rustling through the trees
The dirt beneath my nails
My soul, at ease
I whisper, “I’m hurting”
To my garden bed
Raindrops fall down
I plant this pain instead
Not a grave to bury
But a changling seed
Curled tight into the darkness
But blooming is written
In the shadows of my soul
To be human is to be broken
It’s the healing that makes us
Whole
I tell my worries to the bees
Complain about injustice
To the ever-changing sky
Trust its wisdom in its movement
As I let feelings
Go floating by
I tell the clouds my wishes
Write my secrets on a leaf
And tell the spider she is lovely
Her web is lovely
And I feel release, relief
I fall in love with wildness
Find my heart in weeds so tall
Hear my heartbeat
With each moonflower
Even when the petals fall
I tell the Earth I love her
She holds me close
And sets me free
I care for sky and air and water
And as I nurture Earth,
She nurtures me
I tell the land, “I love you”
But I’m calm in the quiet
Left behind those words
I am loved without question
By earthworms, bees, and birds
By spiders left to weaving
By the clouds that flit above
By the rosemary-scented air
Everything assures I am loved.
