I never fully realized that heartbreak makes me angry with myself. It hurts to hold on while watching past lovers and friends easily let go. Where I love, I love fiercely. My heart refuses to yield. I’ve always seen this as a flaw, but I’m starting to realize that it’s one of the most beautiful things about me.
Struggling to let go isn’t a flaw in me; it’s evidence of a loyal and loving heart. I can, of course, stay angry with myself for those choices and resent my heart for holding on where it’s not wanted — or I can finally accept that loving the way I do is a strength.
